Le nozze di Figaro
Reference ↗Conflicted
Serebrennikov clearly had a lot to say. The first half was genuinely cool... ringtones played on the harpsichord mad me laugh sooo much, a man on all fours (all grotesque, but the point!), Susanna playing everyone like a fiddle (it should really be called Le nozze di Susanna). Then came the art gallery and its fake massacre. And the mirrors. I checked out.
Kulchynska's Countess was gorgeous though -- two arias that made all the mirrors and getting blasted with light in my eyes almost worth it.
