The Royal Exchange is a gem of a venue, and this production used every inch of it. It opens funny, escalates to deeply funny — the white male lead delivering random Japanese words as dialogue with full sincerity is the kind of comedy where you genuinely wonder how the cast kept it together. And then it just... gets dark. Really dark. Moving and sharp and extraordinary in a way that crept up on me completely. I think about it a lot. What a piece of satire.
