La Bayadère
Loved itImpressed
Came in expecting full gilded extravagance and was initially underwhelmed -- it took me a minute to recalibrate when the production relocates the whole thing from India to Dutch colonial times. But it grew on me. The reinterpretation had funny moments (the mud people standing in for golden idols felt pretty scrappy). The dancing and music were gorgeous throughout. And then the final act arrived and was just... sublime -- rows upon rows of dancers on that stage, nosebleeds and all, absolutely worth it. :-)
